Modeano is located in a Region, Friuli Venezia Giulia, known for the quality of its wines. Its various wine-growing areas have different characteristics, making it possible to obtain products rich in different personalities, but of absolute excellence.
Our vineyards are located in the Friulian Riviera. They are not particularly productive in terms of quantity, but they give the wines a strong character and an excellent structure. Two rivers flow respectively to the west and east: the Tagliamento and the Stella. Their deposits have built our soils over the ice ages, making them deep and rich in minerals. The soils have a texture between the frank and clayey, are well drained and withstand the summer drought. The climate has the least rainfall in all of Friuli and is tempered by sea breezes.
FRIULI VENEZIA GIULIA
A land where nature and traditions come together, and every place tells its own authentic story of life and the land.
Friuli Venezia Giulia is a region to be discovered at a leisurely pace, following roads that wind through art cities, ancient villages, countryside, hills and coastal landscapes.
From Palmanova to Aquileia, from Cividale to Udine, all the way to Trieste, each place preserves traces of the stories and cultures that have come together here over the centuries.
San Daniele, Passariano, Grado, Lignano Sabbiadoro, Marano Lagunare and the small mountain villages reveal the region’s most authentic side, shaped by traditions, nature and local flavours. A rich and diverse land to be experienced beyond the best-known routes, guided by curiosity.
THE FRIULIAN RIVIERA
The strip of plains between the Risorgive line and the sea is given this name.
The cultivation of the vine has historically avoided the sandy, wet and reclaimed areas so the most suitable soils are found along the ancient “Via Annia”. This road, whose route is two kilometers south of our vineyards, was built in 131 BC by the ancient Romans to join Adria with Aquileia, avoiding the wet and impassable areas. The Adriatic Sea and the splendid Marano Lagoon are just a few kilometers away, positively influencing the climate.
OUR RIVERS
Waters that flow through Friuli and deeply shape its landscape.
The Tagliamento represents the backbone of Friuli from the Alps to the Adriatic Sea. thousands of years its floods have built up a large part of the Friuli plain. Its course in the middle plain is characterized by a large gravelly riverbed in which the water appears in the rainy periods in intertwined channels, while in the lean periods it flows under the gravel. It is considered one of the best preserved rivers from a naturalistic point of view and an ecological corridor between mountains and sea.
The Stella is a resurgence river. In fact, it collects the waters that emerge from the aquifers of the medium plain and carries them to the Marano Lagoon. Its clear waters have an almost constant flow throughout the year, so much so that its course has no artificial embankments. It is surrounded by beautiful woods. Its mouth is protected by a regional park where it is possible to observe a fascinating and unique natural environment.
OUR VINEYARDS
Our vineyards extend over about 60 hectares, distributed throughout the municipality of Palazzolo dello Stella. The most mature are around thirty years old. We continue to replace those that have reached the end of their career with new vines, in order to guarantee the continuity of production.
The characteristics of the soil and the climate, combined with each other and with the different vines, under the attentive care of the winemaker, give rise to unique wines as an expression of a particular “territory”. We are convinced that quality is mainly obtained in the vineyard, trying to respect the agricultural environment and the animals that populate it as much as possible.
